International Students

Upper Coomera State College in conjunction with Education Queensland International offer our students, their families and our community the opportunity to experience different cultures by inviting students from other countries to have an Aussie experience.

At present we have short term study tours visit our school from Japan, Korea and Taiwan. These tours are with us from anywhere between 10 days and 4 weeks. Each tour offers its own unique experience and enables our visiting students to participate in our classes and experience life at home with an Australian family.

The international student wants to experience the day to day life we lead.  Whether your family is involved in sporting events all weekend, attend theme parks on weekends, or just have a day at the beach every now and again; this is what they want to experience.  Combined with the weekday school activities it offers our visitors a taste of an Australian lifestyle.  In exchange, our Homestay families experience an Asian culture too.

In the near future we will have the opportunity for our Homestay families to take on a long term international student.  The countries involved with long term exchange programs are,  Brazil, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Japan, China, Korea, Chile, Columbia, Vietnam, Mexico and Italy.

A Message from the Homestay Co-ordinator
As Homestay Coordinator here at Upper Coomera State College my role is to make certain our international visitors live in a safe environment.  My role is to interview potential homestay families and cross match the information of the family with our visiting student to ensure compatibility for both parties.  All families involved in our program hold a Blue Card to guarantee the safety of our visiting students.

Short term international students are matched with a student buddy who is with them during their school day.  The only time   International students are away from their buddies are when they have ESL classes.  The ESL teacher is assigned to their group for the term of their tour and have classes approximately twice per week.  International students also get the opportunity to take part in excursions during school days to theme parks here on the Gold Coast.
