Welcome from your Principal

Ari Koskela - akosk2@eq.edu.au
Dear Parent/Guardian & Students
One of the important roles that Senior Schooling fulfils is the transition from school to the adult world. The rapid changes being experienced by society have all increased the importance of completing senior schooling and attaining higher qualifications.
To ensure that our students are fully equipped to meet these challenges we are creating a comprehensive and flexible approach to senior schooling. We want young people to be engaged in their learning and earn valued qualifications. We want them to develop a lifelong passion for learning.
To achieve this, the curriculum has been designed so that students can chose a course of study that will meet their career and vocational needs, will cater to their individual interests and abilities and provide academic rigour and personal challenges.
Our curriculum has three stages. Students entering Year 10 undertake Foundation Studies. Our emphasis is to build a solid base or foundation for further study. In Year 11 students continue with Intermediate Studies choosing subjects from those offered by the Queensland Studies Authority. In Year 12 students complete their school courses in Graduate Studies.
A range of post-school links have already been established allowing students access to tertiary courses and enrichment programs. School based Apprenticeships and Traineeships demonstrate our commitment to vocational education and workplace learning.
It is our intention to deliver the highest standard of education in a flexible learning environment so that our students will move confidently from school to work, training and further education.
In deciding to join us at UCSC you will need to;
- Complete the enrolment form
- Phone to arrange an interview time
- Bring to the scheduled interview copies of academic reports and proof of residence (such as lease agreement, rental receipt or rates notice)
- Complete the Resource Scheme Agreement form and attach payment if appropriate and
- Sign the Acceptable Computer Use Policy agreement.
Parents are reminded that the College has an enrolment management policy. This states:
- If a student who resides outside the boundary, receives an offer of enrolment, it is for that student only and it does not entitle siblings to have right of entry. The parent/caregiver decides if they accept the offer under these conditions. However siblings of the student can apply and are subject to vacancy availability as determined by the Principal.
If you wish to clarify any aspect of your child's learning opportunities, please contact me at Fensham Senior School on 5580 7555 or by e-mail on akosk2@eq.edu.au. I look forward to working with your family as members of the UCSC community.
Yours sincerely,
Ari Koskela

About Fensham Senior School
|
|
Fensham Senior School at Upper Coomera State College encompasses Years 10, 11 and 12.
Year 10 (Foundation Studies) has been developed as a platform to the variety of pathways available for students in Years 11 (Intermediate Studies) and 12 (Graduate Studies). The curriculum in Year 10 is guided by the KLA Syllabuses and prepares students for the study of Authority or Authority-Registered subjects in Years 11 and 12.
Operating from 2006 will be the Queensland Certificate of Education, a school-based qualification awarded to young people who have achieved set standards in a significant amount of learning and met both literacy and numeracy standards. It replaces the Senior Certificate.
The Senior School Campus has its own sense of place so that the principles of the Education and Training Reforms for the Future (ETRF) are addressed. The school day and week in the Senior School are flexible to ensure greatest access to physical, human and community resources by students to allow for individualised pathways. Three year Senior School pathways include both OP and non-OP subjects, as well as the opportunity to complete other formal industry qualifications for all students.
A range of post-school links have been forged allowing students access to TAFE programs, both on and off site, delivered by both TAFE teachers and the school's staff. The College is a priority school in the Valued Partners Program with Griffith University. A range of enrichment opportunities and special programs will enable students to undertake tertiary subjects in conjunction with their usual school based subjects, providing them with higher level coursework and more detailed knowledge of a particular subject area.
The College is a hub for the community and promotes learning partnerships. These may be formal as with School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships, and informal, through a range of links with local government agencies, businesses, clubs and interest groups.
These include:
- Film and Television industry
- Building and construction industry
- Manufacturing industry
- Marine Precinct and Industry
- Tourism and Business Service Industry
Whilst having its own identity the Senior school continues to build upon the successes of the Junior and Middle schools. The Key Principles underpinning the Senior School include:
- Academic Excellence offered throughout the core and elective subjects;
- A strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy;
- Flexible Pathways to meet the needs of OP and workforce bound students;
- A strong emphasis on Vocational Education and Training (VET) for all students;
- The wellbeing of the whole student including their academic, emotional, physical and mental wellbeing and;
