Welcome from your Principal

Brett Weeden - bweed2@eq.edu.au

I would like to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the staff, students and families of Chisholm Junior School.

Chisholm Junior School (UCSC) has a commitment to providing learning experiences relevant to your child’s needs.  We have a strong belief that children develop at different rates and that one size does not fit all.  At UCSC children’s different learning rates are embraced and supported.  Children work with passionate professionals on Literacy and Numeracy programs tailored to support their learning needs.  We continuously question what we do and how we do it so we can enhance learning and achievement for our students. The extra-curricular and curricular opportunities provided at UCSC are expansive.

Chisholm Junior School has built strong, small teams of teachers and students who typically work together for a number of years.  This provides for greater continuity for the children and assists in developing stronger partnerships between parents/carers and staff.  There is a strong sense of small supportive teams working within a larger Junior School team.  The children quickly establish a sense of home in Chisholm Junior School.

Our role at UCSC is about creating an environment or culture across all classrooms that systematically cultivates habits and attitudes of doing ones very best in all areas.  At UCSC we pride ourselves on educating our students for their future so they can face life confidently and creatively.

I look forward to working together with staff, students and families in continuously encouraging each and every child to take charge of their own learning and making the most of every learning situation.  Please contact the Chisholm Junior School leadership team if we can assist you in any way.

Warm Regards,
Brett Weeden
Principal
Chisholm Junior School

Stage A
Welcome to the exciting world of the Early Phase of Learning (Stage A) at Chisholm Junior School.

In Stage A, we are committed to putting the interests of your child first.  We consider your child’s growth and movement through Stage A to be a journey where as a team, we lay strong foundations and develop a love of learning, with a particular focus on English and Mathematics – all within a caring and supportive environment.
Teachers in Stage A take enormous pride in their work.  You will find that each and every one of them has a strong passion for working with you in support of your child’s learning journey. In Stage A we believe that learning should be fun, and that every child is capable of success. Let’s start the learning journey!

Stage B
It is exciting to work with students in Stage B as they enter the Middle Phase of Learning. They are going through changes and we watch them grow and develop into beautiful pre-teens with their own individual personalities.
Teachers in Stage B are devoted to building on the beginnings learned in Stage A and opening many more doors for students to experience real life experiences. Throughout Stage B partnerships with Middle school are forged to prepare students for seamless education at UCSC.

Extra Curricular Activities

Upper Coomera State College students have a vast array of extra-curricular activities to choose from.

When the school opened in 2003, there was a lack of activities for the boarder community as the new and changing Upper Coomera area was still very new and growing. The college staff and community members identified the importance for the students and the broader community to have access to a wide range of opportunities. Importance was identified for the following reasons:

  • intellectual development
  • social and emotional development
  • positive self esteem
  • physical development
  • balance in life – leisure and work
  • connectedness with the community especially with so many families not just new to the suburb but to the Gold Coast, Queensland and even Australia

This prompted staff to identify the needs and planned to offer not just lunchtime activites but also outside school hours activities.

The program has grown, and now ranges from social scrabble to weight training, with activities catering for children of various ages and interests. Opportunities vary from Term to term, some of the many opportunities offered previously are:
